Making the Hobby Affordable

A significant factor contributing to people abandoning the hobby is the substantial initial investment required, coupled with the ongoing expenses needed for maintenance. In an effort to achieve our goal of changing this, we have focused on two key initiatives: first, establishing a fish breeding program designed to reduce costs; and second, developing a range of DIY solutions that are both functional and visually appealing.

Fish Room Software

Keeping track of Water Changes, Parameters and Feedings can be a daunting task for anyone with more than a handful of aquariums. That’s why we have been developing a way to help keep track of Fish Room Maintenance through a single Microsoft Access driven database.

Key Features Include:

  • Multiple Tanks – Each tank has an auto number issued to it.
  • Vendors – Keep track of where your tanks originated from.
  • Multiple Food Brands – Add different types, or brands of food that you use.
  • Water Parameter Record Log for each Aquarium
  • Water Change Log for each Aquarium
  • Feeding Log for each Aquarium
  • Multiple Feedings – With date and time inputs you can record multiple feedings per tank in a single day.

Best of all it’s 100% FREE & Open Source

Making the Hobby Teachable

Through the years in the hobby, one thing that has always stood out to me is the toxic environment that is created, especially with subjects like food quality, tank size and filtration. Now, while caring for our beloved wet pets is a top priority, it should never involve getting bullied online. There are many ways to do things right, just as there are many ways in which things are done wrong. Part of our mission is to create a dialogue in which we can teach people how to do things better in a variety of different ways.
